Event Details

The Illinois Chapter's Academic Debates hosts leading liver specialists and their fellows from Chicago lands top Medical Universities and Community Health Centers. With the guidance from their mentors, fellows go head-to-head to debate controversial liver topics. In 2006 and 2007, the Academic Debates were broadcast on CAN TV!

It is a night of fine dinning and great education!

This is a free educational program for medical professionals. This program offers 3 CMEs.

HEPATOLOGY

John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County vs. Loyola University Medical Center

Hepatitis B: Treatment approach for HBe AB positive patients with chronic hepatitis and viremia, naïve to treatment.

John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County
Pro: The first line of therapy is monotherapy.

Loyola University Medical Center
Con: Combination therapy should be the first line of therapy.

SPECIALTY TOPIC

 

Biliary topic: In stable patients with known PSC with distal extrahepatic billiary disease involvement at risk for cholangiocarcinoma, the screening strategies are:

Pro: Yearly ERCP with sampling is a better diagnostic approach than MRCP alone.

Con: There is no data to support ERCP vs. MRCP.

TRANSPLANTATION

Liver Cancer: A patient with an 8 cm HCC beyond the Milan criteria should be treated with ablative therapy as a bridge to transplantation.
